Every moment and every event of every man’s life on earth plants something in his soul.
-Thomas Merton, New Seeds of Contemplation
As we move through our lives, we have thoughts and wishes of what we would like to see in our life and in our world during our life. As we think these thoughts, we put forth a vibration which is the equivalent of each of our thoughts. Those thoughts we act upon become complete in our mind(soul). Those we do not act upon have the opportunity to transform themselves in our mind as regrets, or incomplete desires.
The difference as to how our mind processes these thoughts, is in the energy we give to them. Are these thoughts just passing thoughts or are the thoughts something that we give our power to and then either act on or we tell ourselves that they are not within our reach, and don’t try, when even trying and failing can be a point of completion for us or the beginning of something great!

I always wonder why people choose to not see the possibility of good in a situation.
Take for instance, when one is either going into or coming out of a job interview. How often does one go into a job interview knowing they are going to totally smoke the interview? Mostly they are nervous or apprehensive, because they think they are not good enough or not qualified for the job. If they went in radiating the idea that the job was already theirs, they would probably get the job.
Conversely, when they leave an interview or are turned down for a job, why think, “I wasn’t qualified” or “I never get the good jobs.” Why not go to the place, where you know, “If this is not my perfect job, the next interview is going to be mine. I am ready for something even better!”
Being positive is all about taking charge of and responsibility for your life.

“As a magnifying glass concentrates the rays of the sun into a little burning knot of heat that can set fire to a dry leaf or a piece of paper, so the mystery of Christ in the Gospel concentrates the rays of God’s light and fire to a point that sets fire to the spirit of man.” ~Thomas Merton, New Seeds of Contemplation, Pg. 150

Why change? There are numerous reasons to change one’s life. Most of them boil down to you’re not happy with your life in its present state.
So how do you change it? You change your thinking. You change the way you look at things. By things, I mean your life, your friends, your job, your life experiences.
The first thing you might want to do is, “lose the story of who hurt you or the many things that have led up to where you are now.” Why? Because, unless you allow it to, your past has no power over you today! Even if you were presently in jail, you have the choice of thinking that your life is over. It may be forever changed, but that’s all right. Life is in constant change, and yes, your life may be “on hold” while incarcerated, but every day leading up to your release, you can work on how you can build something new and good for yourself, when you get out.
Those who are not in jail can start right now, in this moment! Be ready to change a lot of things, depending on your life and surroundings. Change can be easy, but usually not. It is though, way more rewarding than staying in an untenable situation. If it’s not working for you, it’s untenable!
Take a leap of faith. You could create the life of your dreams! How great would that be?

I was out buying a car the other day and my salesman was a young man with a new family. Well, we were talking while I was test driving and he said, “it is what it is” to something we were talking about. Before I knew it, we were talking about living in the now, in this moment, that the past has no power over us except the power we give it. It is the past after all.
This is why I enjoy being with and talking with young people. Overall, they haven’t become entrenched in their story, because they are still making it up. They are more open to and willing to change. They don’t have as much “to lose” as older people think they do. Think being the operative word here.
Being positive even when what you are doing is tentative usually helps tip the odds in your favor. When Thomas Edison was working on inventing the light bulb he said his failures were just mistakes he eliminated in finding the correct combination that worked, all 10,000 of them!
