Attention and Intention

What do you want? Have you stated the intention of your desire?

Did you know that is just the first step? Once you know what you want, you need t bring that front and center. The only way to do that is to think about it and focus your energy on it.

When you think about, do you say, “I can have this!” or “I don’t deserve this!”? In other words, what do you do to support your desire? The first statement supports your desire, and the second refutes it.

It’s very important that you support yourself. If not you, then who?

The other part of supporting yourself is to “move your feet.” That means that you move in the direction of your desires. In order to move in the direction of your desires, you need to do things that support you attaining your desire. As an example, I f you want to lose weight, you can buy healthier foods, eat smaller portions, and exercise. That helps to bring it all into focus. The universe is FOR you.  Remember that. Cancel out that little voice that is the naysayer.

So, are you ready to have what you desire?

Being “On Fire!”

Give a man a match and he’ll be warm for a night, set a man on fire and he’ll be warm for the rest of his life.
~Jed McKenna, The Theory of Everything

Have you ever been “On Fire?”

I don’t mean it in the literal way as in, as in being engulfed in a blaze. I mean it in the sense of, Have you ever felt that conviction that something had a higher purpose for you and you felt compelled to pursue this dream or vision you had?

Emmett Fox called it “your Heart’s Desire.” It’s more often referred to as “your passion.” When you’re passionate about something, it can be consuming, usually in a good way.

When you pursue your passion, you are seldom disappointed, and nothing can get in your way during that pursuit, because you are focused. Most often that focus is not on the completion, which may or may not be attainable, but on the joy it will give the individual or group you are directly or indirectly doing the work for.

I remember when I was a carpenter/contractor. Though I was building something, a room, a house, or a deck, the focus of my passion of creating something was less about the completion of the project, which of course was important to getting paid, but more about the joy the completed project would bring the client for years to come, and the look on their faces, when they saw the final result. That was my real payoff.

When I resigned from banking in 1978, I never did any job or made any career change because of money. I’m not sure I can even say that anything I’ve done since then was a job, because I loved all the things I did, and I didn’t do them for the money. I did them out of love for what I was doing, passionately creating! The money was a manifestation of the love I put into what I loved.

I guess I’ve always been “on fire.”

Staying in Pain-Stuck in the Mud

stuck-in-mudThis is something we say we don’t want ever, yet we seem to not be willing to let go of our stories easily. “He did this to me and my life is over” or “she/he cheated on me and I’ll never find another love” or “the bank turned down my loan, and now I’ll be ruined!” We create unnecessary pain for ourselves by wallowing in our stories and making the story our life, when it’s only a single incident, or moment that we can easily move beyond by letting go of that story.

When we stick our foot in the mud, we can’t remove it fast enough, even to the point of releasing our shoe to get unstuck. Why is it so hard to release our old life, if it isn’t serving us? Think about how much happier we could be, or about how much more prosperous we could be by finding new things that would serve us better. We say it’s fear of the unknown, but when the known isn’t working, why not embrace a change?

I recently picked up a couple of hitchhikers and in our conversation they shared they had been living in the woods for six years and had finally scored a camper to live in, but had no place to set it up to live in, so they continued to live in the woods, pick up odd jobs, when available, and move forward optimistically with their lives. They haven’t given up even though their location would seem to make advancing difficult. The word failure wasn’t in their vocabulary. There was no judgment in their voices, nothing holding them back, but there they are embracing the possibility that life will offer them something more than they have right now.

So, what are we afraid of? Reach out for what you want. If it’s not right for you, you can always change!

As within, so without…

as-aboveThis phrase is Biblical in nature, or so I assumed. It turns out it’s a bit of Hermetic wisdom, or at least a paraphrase of “as above, so below…” It is still a great piece of wisdom to live by.

If you believe as I do that what you believe ultimately manifests in and as your life in one way or another, this phrase reinforces that premise. Sort of like the phrase “you are what you eat.” This of course means that if you eat until you drop, you get just that. Have you ever been to an “all you can eat” buffet? No only does the menu consist of a whole bunch of carbs, but so much of the menu is usually fried, which is also not good for you in excess. Have you ever seen anyone go to these buffets and only eat one plate?

Anyway, we all need to be mindful not only of what we eat, but also what we think. Our thoughts can be harmful to us. Depression is usually caused by our own thoughts or a continuing string of thoughts that create the downward spiral which puts us into a hole we can’t get out of by ourselves, if we’re not paying attention.

How can we keep this from happening? We need to pay attention to our thoughts. Be aware of what we are thinking and not dwell upon the things that we don’t want to have in our lives, whether they are people, places or things.

Are you paying attention?

Truth Revisited

truthI find myself writing about truth and authenticity quite often. While I am speaking to “my truth” all of the time, there are certain truths that I hold to be true for everyone.

One such truth is “All men (and women) are created equal.” And then I realize that at this point in time and space, this is only my truth. It may be a belief that is held by many and it may be true, but until all peoples, everyone, believes this, it is not an absolute. Whether by sex, racism, religion, or for whatever other reason, it is not a universally held belief. So few things are held as universal truths. They may be universal within a group of people but not all.

It would not surprise me to one day hear that Gravity is not a universal truth on this planet. And there’s the kicker and the qualifying statement again, “on this planet.”

So, what this means to me is that I have my truths, which may be held by many others. They principles on which I live my daily life. My principles are not written in stone, but unless something dramatic in my life happens to change them and make me go, “Aha!”, they are beliefs I live by and my life works well, as long as I believe in these truths.

So, why do things not work sometimes? I believe it’s because I question what I hold as true for me. I fall back on comments of others, which may limit me by their unbelief. That’s why I always say, you may listen to others, but always follow your intuition or gut feeling.

So, what do you believe? Is it working for you? Are you open to a new thought or stuck trying to make someone else’s thought work?

If you’re not comfortable or can’t align with a particular thought, it is probably not for you. I’ve read a lot of books with a lot of advice, but I take every bit of it with a grain of salt. There may be a lot of truth in something, but I have to pick from it what works for me.

Just like the news… There’s always an element of truth within the ratings grabbing hype, but nothing or almost nothing can be accepted exactly as presented, because there is almost always someone’s agenda influencing what is written. Ego or our humanness demands it.

The bottom line is, we need to think for ourselves, inquire, research, and build our own idea of correctness, building on what we can already know as what is true for ourselves, without harming anyone else.

What is true for you?

The Company You Keep

crowdThis is often a very touchy topic, but I wouldn’t be me, if I wasn’t willing to put my foot in my mouth. Have you ever thought about how your friends or those around you affect your life, as in your thoughts, feelings and attitudes?

If you’ve been trying to change your life and how it’s working for you, one of the things you must change is all the negativity that goes on around you. The negative thoughts and feelings that they bring into their conversations and communications arouse certain negative vibrations which keep them where they are and ultimately help to create the chaos in their lives.

As you make that move to a more peaceful, productive, and loving life, these same vibrations can create confusion and block your transformation, as you become sucked back into their vibrational field. It can and is often a difficult thing to distance yourself from these vibrations, but it really is necessary to do to attain the new vibration you wish to attract.

Where is your Attention?

attention-intention-Grace“With intention and attention aligned, we have a lens so finely tuned that it can freeze-frame a nanosecond and zoom into Now.
– Kathleen Dowling Singh, The Grace in Aging

Are you focused on what you want or is you mind wandering across a spectrum of wants and not-wants, shoulds and shouldn’ts, successes and failures?

The sooner you bring your attention into alignment with intention, the sooner you will begin to come back into balance spiritually, which enables you to hold your focus on those things you truly want and need to be happy!

What’s holding you back? Lose that thought and replace it with the one that makes you feel the power of Spirit moving through you.
